Meeting the Mouse Monday, Introduction

Recently I began thinking about my blog and wanted to give it some organization, therefore I started thinking about my families’ stories and what I thought people would be interested in reading about. I thought long and hard about this and realized heck, in the past 24 years we have been to “Meet the Mouse,” over 20 times.

During those visits we stayed at a variety of Disney properties and a few surrounding “the Mouse” and have eaten just about everywhere, we have celebrated birthday, graduations, holidays, so I suppose one could say I’m pretty experienced when it comes to Mickey’s domain. I have decided to share some of our Disney tales with you on Monday’s; thus the birth of “Meeting the Mouse Monday.”

Now for those of you who are new to my blog what you do not know is that we are a special needs family, so I will be able to give you a bit of insight on traveling to see Mickey with a special needs child too.

What one should know is if you are planning on going to visit Mickey and his friends it is best to do as much research as possible before you go since there is so much to see and do. Depending on the ages of your children or if it is just the “two of you” hopefully reading this will give you some ideas of what you want to do and what you don’t want to waste your time doing. If you have any questions just send them over or if you have anything to share please email me and I will share it with all of you as well.

Next week I will start with the top 10 things I love about Disney… stay tuned…

  1. Our family loves Disney too. In fact one daughter (she's 21 now) knows the words to ALL the Disney movie songs and wants to be a character (she's "mouse" height) on the Disney cruise ship.

  2. Wow! You're a Disney Pro!! Looking forward to the posts! Thanks for stopping by our blog :) I'm looking forward to reading more of your blog!

  3. Hi Shelly.. I knew I found your blog for a reason. Because I am a kid at heart I have had Annual passes to Disney for the last 8 years and because my kids have so many medical problems I go as much as I can to get away from the madness! I love Disney.. it is my escape place and every time I am there I pretend I am on a far away vacation.
We have lots of stories to exchange!

  4. We are such Disney addicts in our fam too!

  5. Hi Shelley,
I live in Florida and have been going to Disney since I was five years old! ;0) I never get tired of it! My tips are to get to the park early and hit all the popular rides, especially Thunder Mountain and Space Mountain. The People Mover is a great ride when you are tired of walking or the kids are getting cranky.
Although it's fun to stay at Disney, you can stay much cheaper and often get just as good or better accomodations at nearby hotels. The Disney Value Resorts often run specials, but the rooms are very small and pretty basic.
Looking forward to hearing your tips, Shelley! ;0)

  7. Very interesting. Looking foward to reading more.

  8. AHA! now this is a subject that I am very interested in. Being that we live in Tampa Bay, we go to Disney all the time. The last time we went was a few weeks ago. We just put a small suit case in the car and told the kids to get in and we had to make a run to get the suit case dry cleaned. DIRTY SUIT CASE!
When they realized that we were in O-town… (they have been there enough to know the area) we told them that we are playing hookie from school and going to hang out at the Magic Kingdom for the day. Needless to say, they were pretty excited (shocking after all the times they have been).
We have stayed pretty much everywhere on property. We prefer to stay off property. Take for instance. We stayed at the Hilton for 70 bucks vs. the All Star Disney Resorts. ( i don't care for their beds anyways)

We love to frequent restaurants at the Disney Resorts such as Ohanas at the Polyonisian and Whipsering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. (ask for the ketchup).

Sorry… I can ramble forever. BUT I can't wait to see what you think of DW through your eyes.

  13. What a great idea! I've been to Disneyland twice with my girls (many years ago) and it really did help to have done some research. (I read a book). But getting the ideas from a seasonal professional is sure to be much more useful. Now I just need to plan a trip!
PS Thanks for visiting my blog.
