What a beautiful picture

This is my first attempt at a video collage. I thought since my anniversary was a few weeks ago and my husband’s birthday and father’s day I would give it the ole’ college try and give this ago, I love it, what do you think? I think I’m going to be doing a lot more of these!

Ode To Daddy

Ok, so I’m a little late on writing my “ode” to “daddy.” I’m sorry but as usual in my life, “life” got in the way, you know that little thing called “work” helping him build up a new business, which is a 24 hour a day job, keeping up with our 2 daughters, the house; finishing up on the last minute details of our home renovation etc etc etc.. But you know what they say “better late than never” so again… Happy father’s day to the world’s best daddy! This is soooo much better when Michael Bolton sings but you get the picture…

You’re the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold,
you’re daddy’s little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are,
A ray of hope, a shining star.

You’re the brightest of the sunshine
Morning’s first light
You warm my day, you brighten my night
You’re sugar you’re spice,
you’re everything nice,
And you’re daddy’s little girl.

You’re the end of the rainbow, my pot of gold,
You’re daddy’s little girl to have and hold.
A precious gem is what you are,
A ray of hope, a shining star.

You’re the brightest of the sunshine
Morning’s first light
You warm my day, you brighten my night
You’re sugar you’re spice, you’re everything nice,
And you’re daddy’s little girl.

Every enchanted box has a story

I would like to introduce you to a talented friend of mine, Jessie. I met Jessie when our children were young and starting school, we have seen each other through children’s birthdays to business ventures, but aside from being a wonderful person and friend she is a very talented artist.

For the last 38 years Jessie has been practicing this lost art designing and painting Limoges Boxes and is known worldwide as “Boxes by Jessie.” I love to go over to her studio to look at the boxes she has completed and what is so unique is each box has an enchanting story. She has a few beautiful albums and books which showcase her past designs and she knows and can tell you each story which is amazing in itself as there are hundreds. And being a “story teller” myself I love looking at each design and listening to the tale of the box.

In the late 1700’s Limoges porcelain boxes were revered by the royal families, aristocrats, and wealthy merchants. The fine Porcelain that comes from Limoges is evident of its high quality Kaolin clay. Jessie imports white blank Limoges porcelain boxes in many different sizes and shapes and then designs and paints them according to what her client would like the box to “say” be it a monogram or “Happy Birthday” or perhaps a house gift with a painting of the house one is visiting, or perhaps a “yacht.” The “enchanted box” is then created.

Jessie has spent the last 30 years perfecting her color palette, gathering colors from all corners of the world. Before each box is painted a detailed blueprint is drawn simulating color, gold work, and inscriptions. After the blueprint is approved by the client, Jessie proceeds to paint the box. Between each coat of paint the box must be fired in a kiln. Jessie fires her boxes sometimes up to 15 times or more to maximize lush colors and fine detail.

So, if you are ever in need of that extra special personalized gift, this is the woman for you, and I am sure with your story she will create a beautiful box. If you do, let her know her friend Shelley introduced you.

Meeting the Mouse Monday, Introduction

Recently I began thinking about my blog and wanted to give it some organization, therefore I started thinking about my families’ stories and what I thought people would be interested in reading about. I thought long and hard about this and realized heck, in the past 24 years we have been to “Meet the Mouse,” over 20 times.

During those visits we stayed at a variety of Disney properties and a few surrounding “the Mouse” and have eaten just about everywhere, we have celebrated birthday, graduations, holidays, so I suppose one could say I’m pretty experienced when it comes to Mickey’s domain. I have decided to share some of our Disney tales with you on Monday’s; thus the birth of “Meeting the Mouse Monday.”

Now for those of you who are new to my blog what you do not know is that we are a special needs family, so I will be able to give you a bit of insight on traveling to see Mickey with a special needs child too.

What one should know is if you are planning on going to visit Mickey and his friends it is best to do as much research as possible before you go since there is so much to see and do. Depending on the ages of your children or if it is just the “two of you” hopefully reading this will give you some ideas of what you want to do and what you don’t want to waste your time doing. If you have any questions just send them over or if you have anything to share please email me and I will share it with all of you as well.

Next week I will start with the top 10 things I love about Disney… stay tuned…

24 Years of Marriage; the good, the bad, and the ugly…

On June 2, 1985 I was about to become a young 23 year old bride. I was ever so excited to become “Mrs.” but if I knew then what I knew now would I have taken that plunge? Would I have believed it if someone told me that in 24 years we would have…

1. Run ourselves into credit card debit that it would take years to clean up…

2. Moved 4 times in the first 3 years of marriage, once bringing a lovely family of cockroaches over to my in-laws who were ever so “pleased” with me for doing so!

3. Given birth to a premature daughter after having just about everything that can go wrong during a pregnancy including a car accident that would leave me confined to the hospital for my last 2 months of pregnancy to end in 26 and a half hours of labor with Pitocin to be followed up with a c-section birth of a 32 week preemie with 0 Apgar scores who we were told EVERYTHING would be wrong with.(Although, happily that time they were wrong as she is now a beautiful and intelligent almost 21 year old college senior.)

4. Started a business with 2 creeps and then had to pay a lawyer to get out of that situation.

5. Traveled to Antigua, Hawaii, the beach, Palm Beach, Miami, LA, and of course Disney at least 20 something times, … (which was pretty much my idea)

6. Given birth a second time under the same crappy “Toxemia/Pre–eclampsia Diagnosis” and this time having another 32 week preemie that ended up with cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder and all that goes along with that…

7. Created a daughter so beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside that she would be crowned Miss Maryland Teen America and go on to hold the title of Miss Continental Teen America who has became an advocate for the disabled.

8. Created not only 1 but 2 successful businesses that originated from our daughter’s disability and how through her life challenges so many children’s lives have been changed and improved.

9. Ooo so many medical issues, weigh gains, weight losses, medication, and major stress to the point of driving issues, hives and panic attacks.

10. Made it through a huge legal fallout from the sale of a company and everything that went with that…

I can say this through thick and thin we have stuck it out together! I’m still standing. One might ask would I do this all over again. “I do.” That was my answer 24 years ago, “For better or worse, in sickness and in health, till death do us part” and “I do” would be my answer again! Happy anniversary honey, I love you with all of my heart!
